Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section of the forum. I have a new Bill Lawrence Lxr-16 12 string pickup. I am putting it into a Williams U-12. There are three wires coming out of the pick-up: black, red, and white. There are no instructions for this type of pickup on Bill's site. I want to make sure I get this right. What is the best way to wire this pickup into the guitar.
Thank you very much in advance for helping me out here,

I'm not positive on the black and white, but i think the black goes to ground. The red wire is for wiring a spst switch to switch the pickup from humbucker to single coil. The red wire goes to one side of the switch and run a wire from the other side of the switch to ground. Flipping the switch only uses one of the two coils for the single coil setting and both for humbucker. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Hi Bradshaw, Richard is correct. White wire is hot, black is ground, and you can ignore the red wire, [according to Becky], unless you want to split the coils. I have the same pickup in my 12 string Carter and I just coiled up the red wire and taped it to the underside. |

I had the XR16 in a Mullen SD12 I used to have, and in the E9 neck of my Carter. I did wire a switch in each one. The single coil is really nice, but it is really noisy in some venues, so I switch it to humbucker.

Richard,
In the mid 70s Red Rohdes in North Hollywood wired an MSA 12 string for me with a switch to use either single coil or the two together. I never really liked either single coil and used it as a humbucker most of the time. I did use the bright single coil on an album that our Gospel group recorded at that time though when we lived in So. Calif.
I remember seeing Red at the Anaheim convention center playing through two Fender Princeton Reverb amps that he had boosted to about 100 watts each. He was an amazing guy. |

Richard, where did you get your locking collars on your pullers on the Carter? Looks like you have two types. A brass style and a steel type. RP _________________ Emmons SKH Le Grande, '73 Fender P/J bass, Tick tack bass, Regal high strung, USA Nashville 112. |

The locking collar style was offered by Bill Lipscome here on the forum. I don't know that he makes them any more. I did my whole E9 neck. Ghe C6 is still the old dog boner system. The brass ones are just on the lever reversing systems. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
