What is you guys preferred height between the pick up and strings? and why?

I have a 79 Sho bud pro 1 with the stock pick up, but I cant really decide what height sounds the best. Does a close pickup interfer with the overall sustain of the instrument, because of the magnetism/string thing?

Frode

Mr. Sho-Bud Forumite Ricky Davis has always been a big advocate of lowering the pickup to the point where you can slide three U.S. quarters between the strings and the pickup. You certainly can't complain about the tone he gets out of a Sho-Bud.
