My Nash 112 has suddenly developed a loud hum when power switch is turned on. Like low feedback. No guitar or anything plugged in. When the master volume knob is off, its ok. But as I turn the volume up it hums and crackles
This is a 'built in Meridian' model built in 2010. No mods, original. Any suggestions?

Unplug the reverb tank and see if it goes away.

Or turn the reverb down and see if that has an effect.

If so.. I would suspect the reverb pan.

Unplugged the reverb, but no difference.

I had hum in a NV112. There are two Molex connectors used in the Power Supply section. I don't remember which one it was, but I could wiggle the connector and the hum would come and go. Reseating (unplug then plug back in) the connectors solved the problem.

May not be the problem, but one possibility.

If you decide to remove the chassis and check the connectors, be very careful as there is 120 Volts AC there, along with the DC voltages. DO NOT reseat the connectors with the AC power cord connected. If you are not comfortable doing this then a trip to the repair shop.

Thanks Jack. Will check that. And I never work on electronics plugged in! No no no!

Check the simple thing first: make sure the power cord is seated in the amp. It's strapped in but I've had it detach enough to make noise.

Yes. First thing I did. It's a loud, low-frequency horn-type continuous blast. Volume knob attenuates it.

Have you taken the chassis out and sprayed all the pots with Deoxit?
If not, I’d go ahead and do that. I’d also change the chipset to one of Ken Fox’s kits.

Hard to say. At first I was thinking a bad power filter cap. But turning it down and then it is quiet says it’s in the preamp. That could be a preamp power supply issue or other things
