Topic: Better tuners for Rogue RLS-1 |

| I'm real new to the lap steel and traded into a cheap Rogue RLS-1. The tuning machines are pretty sloppy and wonder if anyone could recommend some not too expensive replacements of better quality. Any help would be appreciated. |

A dab of Teflon grease in the nut slots and in the gears helps wonders, sometimes. Stewart Macdonald has a fine selection of tuners. Golden Age Restoration tuners should be a big upgrade, they start at 37 bucks and go up for finish options. They also have an economy set for about 10, but thats likely to be really similar to the set you have already. Check the measurements, the spacing might or might not match

| Thanks Greg. The problem with the current tuners seems to be poor fit between the gears on a couple of them. Very sloppy fit. I'll check out StewMac. |

| Thanks Robert, I bookmarked the site. I plan on eventually building a lap steel and that will be handy. I know this Rogue is kind of a bottom feeder but it should do for a complete beginner like me as long as I can fix that tuner problem. |

| The RLS-1 has the slotted head, my Supro and Gold Tone have the standard head that uses regular tuners. I did change out the tuners on the Gold Tone as well because the tuners on it were plain worn out. In this case I just used some I had in my parts bin. |

| I just got the same Rogue RLS-1 lap steel and I have a tech question. I plugged it into my Kustom 50 Amp amplifier and when I turn up the volume to get a good sound, there is a noticeable hum. I was told the hum is caused by the single-coil pick-up on the guitar. If this true, can I upgrade the pick-up to get rid of the hum, and if so, what kind do I get? If this not the guitar pick-up, do I need a guitar amp? Or is this because this model guitar is a low-end instrument and I really can't do anything except buy a better guitar? |

| Wayne, most likely it's the single coil pup and that can be upgraded. I've read that there are single coil size pups that are essentially humbuckers with a counterwound coil under the primary coil. I use a Roland Street Cube amp with mine that runs on batteries and haven't had any problem with hum. |

Wayne, Be sure you are not sitting too close to the amp. The single coil can pickup the hum from the power transformer.
Three or four feet should be ok, but it is best to try different distances and different orientation
of the guitar to the amp. |

There are humbuckers on Ebay made by Guitar Madness that will fit right in for about $21.00.
