Johnny and Kim Hiland are reporting that Country Music Hall of Fame keyboardist Hargus "Pig" Robbins has passed away at the age of 84.
Kim gave me permission to share her facebook post with her fond memory of Pig and Johnny together.
"Received a call this morning that our sweet friend Hargus "Pig" Robbins passed away. We were some of the luckiest people on this planet to know and love Pig!
A memory I will never forget was going to pick Pig up from his house so that he could go in the studio and play on Johnny's gospel album. Johnny goes to the door and gets Pig and here they come walking down the walkway.....the blind leading the blind!!!! Lol
The world has lost a tremendous musical legend and many have lost a dear sweet friend. Rest Easy Pig!!!! We sure love you.
Sending our love to his beloved son David Robbins and the rest of the Robbins family.
If you don't know about Pig do yourself a favor and look him up....inspirational!"

So sorry to hear this. Amazing musician and really funny guy. Got to work with him alot in my Nashville days.
My favorite story about Pig was one time after a session where there had been some alcohol present, he was trying to convince his driver to let him drive home from the session.

So sorry to hear this. A few years ago my friend Bruce Watkins, invited me to come to watch him play a session, Pig would be playing piano. No way was I going to miss out on that! I am so honored to have met him. Got to have lunch with him and Bruce. This is a great memory for me. Rest in Peace Mr Robbins.

Sorry to read this. I never met Mr. Robbins but feel like I got to know hi, just a little bit through his multiple appearances in the Musicians Hall Of Fame videos.
My condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Pig Robbins. He was one of the greats.
I heard today that he played piano on Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors". I always assumed that Charlie played that himself because he was also a session player.

| "Pig" was incredible! His taste was impeccable and enough could never be said about him to sufficiently pay him tribute. As a person, one could never meet a nicer guy. His attitude as a studio musician couldn't have been better and he was a pleasure to record with. "The KING is gone!". |

That is really sad news, a part of the legendary A Team. It is almost impossible to listen to Nashville productions of the era without hearing the piano or keyboards of Pig. Always providing the best addition to any recording he was on (and that must have been 1000s!)

My condolences to the family. As a pianist first, and a steel guitarist second, Pig Robbin’s mastery of the craft will be engrained in my subconscious forever. So many records and musical phrases.

When I was a young man, I got to know him. Pig played on my first album along with Buddy Emmons, Phil Baugh and several other "A" players. We were chasing a record deal. Pig was not the session leader but I remember him telling the group to play hard, this was a deal getting project. He thought they were just going through the motions for the producer, who happened to be Faron Young. They all did a wonderful job after hearing that from Pig.
He was a straight up guy and sooo talented. RIP my friend.

I did my first session with Pig in 1981 for a Jimmie Crawford record. Been fortunate to have had him and Lloyd Green on several projects I have done the last few years. What a player and story teller! Roger Miller had him in a session years ago just before Christmas time and Roger was talking of the presents he had bought people and said “And Pig, I’m getting you a seeing eye hog!!” Pig said they were swinging from the rafters!

I echo all the great words about Pig.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in action in the studio a number of times. Unlike the other players on those sessions, Pig, being blind, had no chord-charts to read or refer to. Even through complex arrangements and chord progressions, he was always spot-on.
Pig's signature, unique left hand runs are legendary and copied often. He gave us so much great music and his legacy will remain.
On top of this and as others have stated, he was a darn good guy.
RIP Mr. Hargus "Pig" Robbins and be with The Lord.
