I have this old Regal I would like to sell. Any thoughts on this guitar would be appreciated.
The metal plate identifies it as a model H 20, serial number 1478
It is cast aluminum and a female jack has been hard wired in to the pick up.
To my old ear it has a nice sound , not as dobro sounding as I thought it would be.
I have not a clue as to it’s worth.

Although the pickup may have been built by Regal, the rest of the steel was built by Sound Projects (the company that would later build Lectrolab instruments). Beyond that, there's very little info out there about these. They were probably built in the late '30s.

I had one of these, labeled by Sound Projects. It was an earlier one with the electrostatic pickup under the bridge. The electronics did not work and I did not have a case for mine. I sold it on eBay a few years back for $400++ -- but I had about three people bidding against each other for it. As always, YMMV.

You can see the one I had in this thread:

Interesting; they may have bought the body from Sound Projects. Most of them have this tag:

Yes, Noah I think you are right.
Also who ever wired this pick up input apparently didn’t have enough wire on the pick up to hook it up the way yours is.
This jack works just fine but it needs to be changed at some point.
I will put this along with four other lap steels up for sale soon.
At my age (88 ) it’s time to let go of some inventory…
Surprisingly the old case is in pretty decent shape except for the hinges. I believe they can be repaired but I will leave that to the buyer.
