I’m looking for an 8 string lap steel. Cosmetics not super important, looking for something that works well and sounds good. |

Hi Adam. Did you have a price range in mind? New vs. used? My first lap steel was a Melbert 8-string, Bob Allen there does great custom work for under $500 for a basic model 8 and under $600 for several deluxe models. I think he hits the intersection between value, price and quality. You can also find a used one from time to time.

The SX 8 from Rondo music might be worth checking out. As far as I know it is the most affordable 8 string lap steel you can get new on the market. I have one of their 6 string lap steels and I'm very happy with it.
