I have been playing 2 1/2 years but have always struggled on what to play. I can learn a tab and get it sounding pretty good, but if I let it go can’t play it 3 months later if I don’t stay on top of it.
This morning I started Just Play The Melody by Jeff and just watched the first part where he shows 3 notes played 2 different ways, basically 1-2-3 of the scale.
So I decided to go at this a different way today, I took those 3 notes and a random Jeff Newman Track ( Storms Never Last) and played only these 3 notes the 2 different ways, I did move to the 4 and 5 chord but played the same notes, I did an intro, a break and backup with only these notes in the 1-4-5 spots.
I have to say it was very freeing and sounded more like music than most stuff I have tried. I did not play the melody because I only had 3 notes to work with but hopefully that will come as I add notes.
I am going to continue through the video and add a few notes a day until I get through this thing and a random song each time. I would love to hear how people use books, dvds, online courses to get it to really sink in. |
