No. But the top two strings and the bottom two strings are the same, an octave apart so you could get away with a 8 string. However, there are a lot of chords you can play in the top 6 strings. _________________ Rose D13 tuning: Cabinet by J.R. Rose with mechanics engineered by Darvin Willhoite.

Not Alkire, but if you wanted to try a 6 string tuning that isn’t laid out as strumming chords., yet still has history and learning materials, you could try the Leavitt tuning,
C♯ E G B♭ C D
https://steelc6th.com/tunings/bill_leavitt.htm
You could also try Jerry Byrd’s diatonic tuning which was E F G A B C E, dropping the low E for six strings. _________________ Current Tunings:
6 String | G6 – e G D G B D
7 String | G6 – e G B D G B D

Allan, I believe that Jerry Byrd tuning is called Diatonic, all the notes basically being a diatonic scale run in the Key of C. |

There is a great deal of goodness in the 6 highest Alkire strings. There's no question the 10 string opens up a huge number of possibilities, but you can get pretty dang far with the top 6 strings.
Highest pitch on the far right: G G# A B C# E
I give a breakdown of the strengths/weaknesses of 6 string Eharp in this post:

I have been practicing & playing at a Senior center for several months using the 8 string Alkire tuning. I was so impressed by Claude Brownell‘s sounds that I tuned my tuning a half tone lower than his Alkire tuning. My only reason for that was that there are many similar positions on a B-flat six universal pedal steel tuning that I used to play. That saved me from re-learning a lot of bar positions. One can capture a lot of those same possibilities on a six string also but with the obvious limitations. |
