I have a pair of Stereo Steel K-130 speakers 4 ohms and a pair of Stereo Steel D-130 speakers 8 ohms. What would have a better vibe in a playing situation with a Stereo Steel combo amp.
It's difficult to hear the nuances of the speakers in the house as they both sound good.
Also, would you leave the speakers on the floor or elevate them? _________________ I survived the sixties! |

I guess I'll go with the K-130 speakers and leave the cabs on the floor. _________________ I survived the sixties! |

I think they’d be really close and hard to differentiate between the two. They’ve been reconed with the same kits and both are alnico magnets. Can’t lose either way!

People tell me that speakers placed on the floor have more volume than those elevated on stands, etc., if that's a consideration.
Concerning the choice of drivers, folks seem to think the D130s are the sweetest over the K's. I've had both but never the chance to compare them.
The Stereo Steel can handle both 8 and 4 ohms.
I'd at least be tempted to try the 8 ohm D130 pair provided the stage volume is tolerable. Otherwise, I'd choose the K's.
If these speakers came from Gerry, they may be similar anyway as he had the Lansings re-coned to his specs, so you may want to check the DC resistance as they may be the same ohms if they are GD Walker re-coned units.
[EDIT:] I see David and I were composing some similar thoughts at the same time. |

Hi Jerry:
Yes, the D-130's came from Gerry Walker and the K-130's were reconed from the same person that does Gerry's speakers. I am all set with speakers for the rest of my life. _________________ I survived the sixties! |

Len,
Those speakers are probably all 4 ohms. I know the ones that I reconed for Gerry were always 4 ohms. If I remember correctly
those 2 I reconed for you were also 4 ohms. An ohm meter check will tell.

Hi Jeff:
Yes, the K-130 speakers you reconed for me were 4 ohms. I assumed the D-130 speakers were 8 ohms but I will check with my multimeter.
You should be receiving the Bandmaster speakers shortly.

The K-130s will handle more power/volume without breaking up. The D-130s are a touch brighter and at 8ohms into the same amp will decrease power by about 1/3 if amp is rated at 200 watts at 4ohms. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox
