One of my Thanksgiving traditions is to try to get out and see Taj Mahal during his annual “residency” at Jazz Alley in Seattle. Apparently Taj Mahal recently injured both arms in an accident and can’t play guitar yet. (He was just singing and very gingerly holding a harmonica in one gloved hand.) Fortunately, he had three amazing guitarists on hand: Bobby Ingano (Strat and lap steel), Rob Ickes (dobro) and Trey Hensley (acoustic and vocals).
Well played, gentlemen! This year among the many things I’m thankful for is the ability to get out and hear such incredible musicians.

Wow! One of my favorite blues musicians with two steel players! I'll bet it was amazing. His harmonica playing on his first album was a big influence on me as a beginning harp player. I chased that tone for years! |

Wow, that's a great lineup. I knew Taj was coming but didn't know about his band. I would have gone but it's a long wait for the ferry these days! I haven't been to Pioneer Square in decades. |

Thanks for sharing the video, Andy! Jazz Alley doesn’t permit audio/video recording. And while some people ignore the request, I don’t. But I wish I could share some of the solos played by Bobby and Rob …
(Joe, I feel for you folks on Whidbey — and everyone who relies on Washington State Ferries to get around.) |
