I’ve got an older Goodrich VP, I currently have it set up the way I received it. I tried a bunch of different mods/routes with various springs and guides. No matter what I do, it doesn’t feel right. More importantly, it go from 0 to 9 almost instantly. I’ve taken the pot out and measured the tapper/resistance and it reads fine. The string also looses its grip when it gets to the highest volume.
I have a Hilton, which I love running with my pedals. But I would also like to have the passive pedal for running direct. And as a back up.
Any pro tips? Or photos of your Goodrich and what it should look like?
Thanks all?? _________________ 1975 MSA Classic, AA1164 Princeton clone, Quilter Tone Block 202, Custom Warmoth Jazzmaster, two Kazou Yairi Alvarez Acoustics from the 80's, Acme Low B2 bass cab. |

Hard to tell from Foster’s picture, the string should wrap around the cap screw that tightens the collar to the pot shaft. That prevents the string from ever slipping. Greg Cutshaw has a great tutorial on his site that walks you through this. |

Thank you. I will look it up. It’s not, nor was when I got it, wrapped around the screw. _________________ 1975 MSA Classic, AA1164 Princeton clone, Quilter Tone Block 202, Custom Warmoth Jazzmaster, two Kazou Yairi Alvarez Acoustics from the 80's, Acme Low B2 bass cab. |

That vid is excellent. I have numerous photos, my own and from Greg's presentation but a vid is worth a thousand pics. |

Look at the video.
You have too many windings around the collar.
And it looks like you have doubled the string.
Once over, around the screw and then once around the other side.
The key to installing the string is to lock the pedal in the OFF position while working on it. I use a simple spring clamp.
If your string has hardened, then you need a new string. Some of the old strings had a wax coating and when that hardens, it will slip for sure. _________________ AUTHORIZED George L's, Goodrich, Telonics and Peavey Dealer: I have 2 steels and several amps. That video was the ticket. Thank you all for the rescue. Now that I know it’s working well I have posted it for sale on the forum. I like my Hilton better for my current rig. _________________ 1975 MSA Classic, AA1164 Princeton clone, Quilter Tone Block 202, Custom Warmoth Jazzmaster, two Kazou Yairi Alvarez Acoustics from the 80's, Acme Low B2 bass cab. |
