Topic: Help needed: pedal not returning to position when depressed |

Hi friends,
One of the pedals on my Mullen RP does not return to pitch when I let go of the pedal. It gets physically stuck in the down position. I can use my hand and lift the pedal back up, but it will not do it on its own.
My guess is that it is a simple lubrication issue. All the parts look to be in good condition. I’m wondering what kind of lubricant I should use on the undercarriage of the guitar? Oil? Grease? Any specific brand recommendations and applicator for this use would be greatly appreciated.

Mullen sells an needle applicator bottle with oil on their website. That's what I would get. Might as well use what the builder uses. But most light oils work fine. I use a turbine oil on my Carter. That's what Carter used to sell.

| 1st find out where it is sticking by backing off the tuning nuts and seeing if it goes away- if it does it's in the changer and if it doesn't it's in the pedal or linkage. |

Jim, thanks for your advice. When you say “back off the tubing nuts†are you saying to loosen the string at the key head, or loosen the nylon nut at the changer? |

| Loosen any nylon nut at the changer end that is affected by the pedal in question. |

| I had that problem on my Franklin. It was the pedal, oiling the pedal fixed it. |

| Easy enough to tell if it's the pedal, just unhook the pedal rod and move the pedal with your hand. And before you re-attach the rod to the pedal, pull down hard on the pedal rod with your hand. If it doesn't go up and down freely, it's binding at the cross-rod or changer. |

| A friend of mine had trouble with his Mullen not returning from a pull, He found it was the cross rod binding, A little lube cured the problem. |

| Thanks folks, I’ve fixed it! It was rubbing where one of the cross shafts meets the side of the body. A bit of oil, and I’m back in business now… |
