I am interested to know how many have tuned up their bottom string from the root (C in C6th) to the second degree (D in C6th, C# in E9/B6 or C in Bb6).
I raised it about 2 months ago and I won't go back. That string now only as a "D" has come alive.
Maurice Anderson had it on all his 6th tunings and when he went into the non-pedal steel in the later years, he told me he wouldn't be without it.
I see some Maurice followers having it.
Bobbe Seymore had a lever change to pull from C to D he used it a LOT! But he needed the "C"-root for his thumb bass for his "Travis-style" play.
I am glad to discuss the advantages of it in a separate thread. But for now, I have a question:
Those who have it, what have you done with the "8"-pedal?
- NO drop and just grab the "A" an octave higher on the 8th string)?
- 1/2 drop?
- dropping a full 4th (5 half steps down) to the originally intended "A"?
- replaced the "8"-pedal with a different change to get "that" chord and the "drop" sound somewhere else?
Thanks!... J-D. _________________ __________________________________________________________

I've been thinking about this a fair amount lately. It seems to be a more common thing w/ Bb6 players to have the low root tuned up a tone. I don't play that tuning but I've seen that dom7#9 voiced on those copedants with a Maj3rd on the bottom.
So the pedal 8 eviqivalent, in this case G7#9, ends up being something like...
D
G
F
D
Bb
G
F
D
+B
G
-D
-B
My understanding of that tuning is abstract at best but I think that's what ends up happening in some set ups. But I suppose that 10th string could indeed drop down a 4th to low G.
C# on the bottom of E9/B6 U12 seems very rare. But it certainly seems appealing. It would turn the whole thing into a C#m11 and the Es lowering would be 9ths. |

My F lever drops 11 to C# rather than raising it to another E#
I am content with the logic of the low B. As well as the G# on P8 and the raise to C# on 5, I also drop it to A on the A pedal. Busy old string! _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Chalker had D on the 9th string and low A on his 10th.
