(Weiss..Copy that is.)
Is anyone out there using these "Superior" steels made in Mexico. I purchased mine from a store in Berkley, CA. THe materials and craftsmanship are both excellent. Your Input? Reviews? Pickups used? etc.

I really like mine ... especially since I replaced the plastic bridge piece with a steel one. The action was too low ... but now

I don't have a pickup .... just use it on the porch.

I have one, really like it. I've had it for a couple of years now. Soon I will put a Fishman pickup in it. Right now I have a Lace sensor acoustic pickup across the sound hole but I don't like it very much. My acoustic guitars have Fishman p/u's, they sound really good, hopefully they will sound good in a lap guitar. I used it last night, played mostly acoustic blues on it. I'm going to get another one so I can use several tunings.

I had a Fishman "rare earth" single coil in my Weissenborn for a while but sold it 'cause I didin't like the sound - way too much 60 cycle hum & spikey treble.

I've got the Superior with a spruce top, and lord knows what sides and back, rope binding. I replaced the bridge with one fashioned from metal. I love mine and think it's a great deal for the money. It's a really versatile instrument.

The "cons" are it is pretty delicate (the finish isn't the greatest) and the string spacing is a little too wide.

When I bought mine, I played about 10, including some of the older "K&S" brand
guitars he had made in Mexico prior to the Superior brand. The Superiors sound better and louder. I liked the spruce top model the best in terms of tone.

They're made by Berkeley Music in Berkeley, California. The prices are very reasonable, too.
