Yup, that's exactly what it is, Ken -- a Baldwin Vibraslim, manufactured in England by Burns. I knew I recognized it, but could not place it.

At first I thought it to be a “Burnsâ€. But Baldwin bought that company around 1965 or so.
Burns made the radical Strat looking guitar for Hank Marvin of the Shadows fame. _________________ Dana Blodgett

Does anyone know of recorded examples of Willie playing electric?
There's a good electric solo on "Hey Good Lookin'" on the Offenders Reunion--Can't Get the Hell Out of Texas album (the only electric playing on the album), and there's no credit for anyone else on guitar. If that's Willie it's totally distinct from his nylon-string style on Trigger. |

When Willie was signed to RCA Records, guitar companies would let him test their guitars on his records. He played several different guitars, including the Fender Telecaster, Fender Jazzmaster, and Fender Jaguar, along with several Gibson guitars until 1969, when Baldwin gave him a Baldwin 800C Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar for him to test before a show he was playing near Houston, Texas. One night, after playing a show at Floore's Country Store in Helotes, Texas, a man stepped on Willie's Baldwin guitar, so Willie and several members of his band took the Baldwin guitar to Shot Jackson, and Willie asked him to fix it. Shot told him that the damage was irreparable, and told Willie that he would have to find another guitar, so he asked Shot what guitars he had, and Shot told him that he had a Martin N-20, so Willie bought the N-20 and asked Shot to put the pickup the Baldwin had into the N-20. Not sure if there are any records where Willie played electric, but I saw him on a show he did with Sheryl Crow in '02 where he played an electric guitar, but other times, he was playing "Trigger". |
