| I'm about to change p/u's on a new D-10 in a few days and was looking for some feedback on the PF-II pick ups. The 10-1's are my favorite but I'm considering trying a PF-II. I believe the 10-1's are 19.5 while the PF-II's are showing 20 ohms. The guitar currently has George L SS p/u's, which are ok but I don't care for the tone as compared to the 10-1's. Thanks. |

Billy, since the subject is pickups would you allow me to jump in here and ask what is the difference between the BL 710 and
910 pickup? Since you are my friend I knew you would not mind. Thanks. Bill |

Billy, I had Gary to put a SS on my new Rains and left it on less than a week.
I put my fav on, a E-66 and the guitar came to LIFE.
However, I would like to try a George L.
Eon PU, its a E-66 with a plain steel blade, might be interesting.

Billy, I personally like the 10-1s the best. I now have three steels( Carter, Mullen, and Fessenden) and I have the 10-1s on all three. I might add that all three steels sound different but all three have a great tone. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you could try the PF-11s, and if you didn't like them change them out for the 10-1s.

| Hey Bill, jump in anytime on any topic. It doesn't have to be pick ups. I've used the 710's on a few guitars including a Lagrande II. It was nice and an improvement over the single coils that were on it. A new Fessy that Jerry sent me recently had 710's on it and the tone was unreal. The 910 p/u, I hadn't tried, so I can't really give an opinion on it. Here's what I do like: 10-1, XR-16, GFI-II & the 710's. If the PF-II is anything like the GFI-II, then it'll be nice. Thanks. |

I have an E-ON on my Spirit SD10 and love it. When I ordered the guitar from Bob, I asked for a TT 18.5 Kohm. The pickup was late coming in so Bob mentioned that he had the E-ON - I went for it. I have since gotten the TT and put it on. Less than a week later I put the E-ON back on it. I get a LOT of positive comments on the tone of my Rains.
I have a new Rains SD10 on order, (one can't have too many), and this one will be coming with a 10-1. That and the color are the only differences. (I can't wait.)
I've played quite a few different guitars, and IMHO it would be hard to beat a Rains.

Billy, have you compared the 10-1s to the 710s in a Fessenden? If so, what was the difference in tone between the two?

The 10-1 on the C6 neck, and the E66 on the Nashville neck, are my favorites.

| The last new D-10 Fessy I got in from Jerry had great tone with the 710's. I've only tried the 10-1's on the Rains guitars and now that's what I compare other p/u's/guitars with. I believe the Rains guitars that Gary Carpenter is building are going to be a driving force in the steel guitar communities. The product is just to good to take a backseat to anything. Plus Gary's a super nice player to talk to and do business with. |

I replaced the E-66 p/u on my SD10 Rains with a Geo L Eon. Its a perfect match,sounds great.

Bill and Billy, the BL910 is slightly darker than the BL710 ...a little like the comparison between the E66 and the 10-1. I have a 910 on the E9th neck of my Zum and it is superb!.

| Well guys heres my two cents worth on the subject. I have owned several guitars and have used the 10-1 pickup on them. I love the overall well balanced sound that it gives me. On all of my Rains guitars nothing but 10-1 has a very good sound and hot hot. The people at Rains sure build a great guitar. if you ever get the chance to try one you might just be the next guy that buys the product. Jim |

I have not heard the PF-II which GL describes as a "full-bodied pickup." I like the highs of an E-66 and the lows of the 10-1, which is why I use the E-on. My guess is that the PF-II at 20 ohms is going to be quite full with weak (for my taste) highs. |
