This must be the Hawaiian music equivalent of "businessman's bounce."

Here'a standard guitar arrangement of the tune labeled "Swingy tempo."

A cover of South Sea Swing was the first track on the first LP ever recorded in New Zealand, South Sea Rhythm by Bill Wolfgramm and His Islanders with Daphne Walker, released 1956.

It lays out nicely in E13th!

A cover of Tiger Shark also appears on the album, reinforcing the influence here of "Hawaiian" music recorded by European groups.

I met A.P. Sharpe in his shop at the Clifford Essex Music Co., publishers of BMG magazine. And the Harry Pahene credited with the song is perhaps better known as Harry Brooker.
