Topic: 2.2mm Allen wrench....Anyone know where to get some? |

Hi Fellow Steelers!
I have a keyless Lamar guitar - the strings wrap around a bolt which requires a 2.2mm Allen wrench.
Seems like everyplace I check has 2 or 2.5mm
Any specialty shops you guys know of? |

you'll find the tolerances closer with the 3/32" than the 2 or 2.5 mm. We're talking 7 thousandths of an inch after all.
Even so, you'll have the whole gamut with the two sets there. When you find the one that fits best you can always pick up a T-handle wrench that size. |

Try a 3/32 inch allen wrench, If it don't fit.
Do what we done working on Volkswagen bugs and German mining equipment years ago, Before metric allen wrenches were redly
available in USA.
Take the next size larger yankee wrench, And with a stone or file carefully cut down the wrench till it fit perfect in the Allen head socket.
I have many tools that have been modified to fit, Working on special fasteners. |

I owned a keyless Lamar but it was several years ago and it was his first guitar. I actually don't remember for sure, but I think it had #6 hex socket head screws and that took a 7/64 hex wrench. I know it wasn't anything oddball but he built several guitars after that.
Your guitar could have #4 socket heads, but that sounds really small for holddown screws and would probably take a 3/32 or perhaps 2.5mm allen key.

Thanks for the tips guys!
The guitar had some different screws holding the strings- they were too soft, so he sent me these years back. I’ll get a photo and post it later.
I guess I should call Lamar as well. |

Yeah, I'd call him. He was always very helpful to me when I owned his guitar. Let us know how you come out with the wrench size.
So, replacements...I hadn't considered it, but they might be button head screws which would cover more area. |

Cool!  Glad you got it sorted out.
That keyless unit is the same as the one on the guitar I had. I really like the way it works and it's compact size. |

While looking for a pic of the axe, I came across this older pic showing the original screws...they were just too soft....
Here's the guitar- it's so amazing. I've never seen a smaller PSG, yet it sounds as big as anything.....Light too:)

First thing- thank you all gentlemen!! This forum is amazing.
I had gone to McMaster before.....when you choose 2.2mm, the selection is terrible- no "L" wrenches at all.
As mentioned, thank goodness I found a few. I've also left a message for Lamar.....no response yet. Does anyone know Lamar- or have heard from him?

Great news- I just spoke with Lamar- what a true gentleman!!
The solution is 7/64ths....
Had a super fun gig last night, using my Lamar, through a 1978 Pro Reverb......what tone....I love my Lamar Guitar!!
