Ive had this pristine Webb 614e combo for a couple of years now. I got it at an estate sale and it had been sitting in a closet since the 70’s. I mean virtually brand new-no dust no bottle rings or anything on it.

Played great until recently and now it sort of fades in and out, growls, even distorts a little.
An amp guy said when I first got it that it would probably need the “caps” replaced after that long. Does this sound like a “caps” problem? I switched out all the cords, volume pedal, etc even the speaker cab-its definitely something in the head.

A common issue with the Webb amps is the toggle switch for the 5 band EQ going bad. The circuitry passes through it whether its activated or not and will cause the amp to cut out. It’s a common inexpensive part but a little bit challenging to change if you’re not adept at soldering. I’d start there before before getting further in depth.

Dave’s right, I had that issue, replaced the switch, and good to go.

I hope that’s the issue, regardless, it’s worth fixing. Great amp.

95% of the time, THE issue with a Webb is that pesky EQ toggle switch. The entire signal path is at the mercy of that switch's condition. Replace them on any old Webb, and often times they're good as new after that.

Tab, I took my 1977 Webb to the elctronics guy at Capital City Guitars in Olympia, and brought complete schematics I got from Tom Bradshaw. He cleaned it up and got rid of some hissing white noise in the amp. So he's kind of local to you, and has Webb experience, FYI.

I bought my Webb brand new from Mr. Webb himself around ‘94…just started having the problem with the EQ toggle. Is it an easy part to find and would I need to discharge the caps before replacing it?
