Health issue means it's time to sell my Mid 60's Sho~Bud SD-12 Fingertip.
4 Pedals & 4 Knee Levers. E's are on the left
My right hand has become too shaky to play this any more. The condition is not expected to improve.
This steel started life as a D-12. It was restored and changed to an SD-12 by Bob Muller who did a wonderful job. Body is Maple and Brazilian Rosewood.
I bought it from Bob last December when my hands were a little better for $2,400.00 and will sell it for the same. Bob had more in it than that so it's a good deal as is.
Split Pick Up with great tone control to get just about any tone you could want. For sure it's the best sounding Bud I ever owned, and I've had quite a few over the years.
Stays in tune well. Very light pedal and knee action. Easy to change copedent on these. Even more so since Bob converted it to the later model two hole pullers.
Original case included as well as all the remaining parts needed to hook up a 4th knee with 2 pulls.
I would prefer to sell local within 100 miles and could drive too meet.
Will ship if buyer pays for the packing and the ride and insurance.

Sorry to hear that, you make great inlay! I've been ordering/using it along time. Who's going to supply luthiers with that great pearl now? Hope you get better. |

Thanks for the concern about my health. Not the worst thing that can happen to a person.
Short story is that 28 years ago they thought I had MS. A year later they decided it was some other unknown. Later they said it was essential tremors and treated me for that without too much luck. 8 months ago my doctor at the VA discovered it was Parkinson's caused from agent orange and has been treating it with Carbidopa/Levidopa which has been helping, though I'm now ready to have the dose raised.
Really I'm happy to know what exactly is going on and can adjust my life style to it.
Since this post they now have done a Brain MRI and discovered dark places on my Right Frontal Lobe and also on the Pons, part of the brain stem.
Still waiting since last March for the Neurologist appointment, but the VA can be slow and seem to be doing just that now.
Not sure what if any cure or help may or may not be possible?
Lucky that I can still play the Clinesmith lap steels with the wider string spacing most of the time.
The pedal steels have strings just too close together and I can't get the grips any longer and even single note picking is a problem. I was never a really good player anyway so no big loss to the world. Just less fun for me.
If the Covid ever lightens up to where we can return to Saigon I have several projects there including a pedal steel with wider string spacing that will be adjustable wider as time goes on and the need arises.
I'll probably also have to sell the Promat D-10 after a while. It is also very tight for me and so it's been in the case over a year now. _________________ Inlaid Star Guitar 2006 by Mark Giles. SD-10 4+5 in E9th; http://luthiersupply.com/instrument-gallery.html

Hi Andy,
DePaule Supply continues on with my son Sam running the US sales as well as doing a lot of our new designs during the last ten years.
I'm semi-retired and still run our workshop and do international sales & shipping from Saigon with great help from our manager there, Hoang who has been with me over ten years and does a great job.
My work now only requires a little time each day leaving plenty of time for continuing to build guitars and what not for my own pleasure now. Don't need to sell them for a living now.
Best wishes,
Andy
ps. The guitar I'm building here while we wait to get home is almost done now.
Just what I need, another guitar????
It's a Carved Arched Back of Quilted Maple. Sides are also Quilted Maple. Flat top of Sitka Spruce. Neck is Birdseye Maple. Simple inlays. Rosewood Fretboard, Pickguard & Bridge.

Thanks Dustin,
Actually God made the wood and I just hacked away the parts that were not a guitar.
I should have had it done 6 months ago, but have been a lazy bum.
I'm gonna try to get her done this month.

No offense, but this one stays in tune very well.
Sure we all remember how badly Lloyd Green was always out of tune on his old fingertip? NOT!
Maybe best if you don't comment on an instrument you have never even heard or played?
Thanks,

First of all this guitar has been restored and up dated with improved later style Sho-Bud parts to make it play and stay in tune better. This makes It more like an old car with all new parts inside. Finally it is not like a newer built Guitar, and I think that is a good thing.
If Bobby Seymore said it it must be true!!!! |

John, the Fingertip changer is a 1/1. You can add more by adding barrels on the rods but at that point it gets hard to tune if you have a lot! A simple Emmons setup is no problem for these guitars. I have a 66. _________________ '66 Sho~Bud Fingertip, Sho~Bud amps, Fenders, old cars and Tinkerin with steels! |

Liam; your getting the "Fingertip" Changer mixed up with the single raise/single lower Barrel Tuning changer.
The fingertip changer is a pivoting finger; but you have 3 raise holes to choose from and 2 lowering hole to choose, where to hook a rod to pull from Crossbar.
The 1/1 changer came out right after Fingertip.(on crossover and then Professional)

Rick Is Right, However you can rig up two different changes (Raise or Lower) on a string in more than one way.
An example on this Sho~Bud Fingertip many of the underside parts are more modern using two hole pullers.
The E to F# is on a pedal and the E to F is on the left knee left.
The E to F# is tuned at the fingertip and the E to F is tuned at the knee lever stop under the steel. Very easy to adjust while seated.
