Does any one have any experience with a SE-300 with steel? does it sound pretty good?

Wow, that's an old unit and large. I had to watch some YouTube videos to see it. Do you own this? It don't sound too bad but there is certainly newer and smaller units that sound and work better.

Tape units are not for steel... you have enough headaches without having to worry about mechanical tape. Leave them for the collectors and armpit guitarists... they appreciate the lo-fi and saturation of tape, where steel players just want hi-fi delay and reverb.

That unit is worth about 1000$... sell it and buy a real nice TC Electronics rack-mount, IMO.... unless, like me, you like to play crazy rock music on guitar. I have two tape echos, a Maestro EP-3 and a Roland RV-501... using them is a labor of love. And you're always aware that while they're on, they're spinning tape, wearing it out.
