I can't really see it very well in the pic, but it's not uncommon to put heat shrink tubing over the joint between the wire hook and rod just to keep the hooks connected and aligned with the rods.
The pull rod guide close to the changer just reduces the flexing in the rods, which can make the pulls feel a little more solid and crisp. It does not affect tuning, which is all done at the changer except for "half-tone" tuners. _________________ All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest - Paul Simon |

The first time I saw this was when the late Albert Johnson put them on my 74 D-10 Emmons. This was over twenty five years ago.
This also eliminates some of the noise in the under carriage. |

Ditto what Willis said, it can help with the noise or clacking, especially if there is slack in that rod. _________________ Co-owner and operator: Emmons Guitar Co. |

The heat shrink and the raise and lowering rod guides are Albert Johnson's work. |

Thanks folks. As I “get into†push-pulls I’m making some neat discoveries. Wish I’d played a Bolt-On 50 years ago… _________________ RETIRED
