Topic: Steelers Choice Seats - Backrest Removal? |

I know the Steelers Choice seats are excellent, and the seats and builder have a long standing excellent reputation. I have found a good deal on a used Steelers Choice seat, in nice condition, with a backrest. I'm not to crazy about the backrest, but it's there.
Question - Can the backrest be removed from a Steelers Choice if desired? Would it take a complicated surgical procedure to get it off? This is IF I decided to remove it.

| Wow, good question. I have one and never wanted to remove it. If you do, I would be interested in the backrest for one of my personal builds. |

Larry - Does it look like it would come off, like attached with screws or bolts?

Its easily removed. Bolted/screwed on.
Try it with the back, you may like it. |

There's 3 bolts on each side and one on the inside for the stop hinge.

You will have to take the inside panel that cover the bottom of the seat cushion out also. It is installed with phillips screws.
I have replaced my seat cushion and cloth a couple of times, thus having to remove the backrest.
I'm with Jack, try it first with the backrest. Just at home, I don't use it, but when on a gig, it is sure nice to be able to sit back when not plucking the strings. hehe

Bill is 100% right. The inside panel has to be removed. As he suggested, try it out. I wouldn't be without it.

They are built with a back for a reason -- :-} ... I would try it out with the backrest in place for a while - then you will probably want to keep it !!

| What I recall, just about all (maybe all) the steel guitar players at the monthly Lake Panasoffkee steel jams had seats with backs. |

In an effort to make "weight" for a fly gig I did a few years ago, I removed the backrest from my "Walker professional players chair" seat. Not only did it save about 5 pounds but for the 1st time since I got it the seat hangs straight down from the handle when being carried. I never put it back on and have not missed wacking my knee when loading my gear! JE:-)>

Well, I finally bought the used, but almost new condition, Steelers Choice Easy Rider, with a back rest, from my friend here in town.
First, I am very impressed with the quality, construction, materials, and appearance of this seat. Now, I understand why they have been so popular over the years. I'm glad I was able to buy this seat.
The comfort of the seat is great. I'm liking that.
As for the back rest, and my initial concern about whether or not it could be removed - THE BACK REST STAYS! I have to admit you guys were right, and I'm was wrong to consider removing it. I like it, and it's quite comfortable.
