Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I don’t use metal picks. Don’t like the clinky sound they make. I use the Alaska picks and the Fred Kelly freedom picks. They fit over the top of your finger so you can actually touch the string with the flesh of your finger when you need to mute etc. I have no interest in the picks that come up and cover the pad of your finger. I did use one on a finger that had a cut on it till it healed, so I guess they are good for some things..Winking

I love the old black ones once marketed by Gibson, but haven't seen 'em available for decades. Now I use (relatively) inexpensive 9020 Dunlops. I buy 'em by the dozen, boil 'em, and bend 'em. The trick is bending 'em to fit comfortably. I have a high attrition rate, and consider my efforts a success if I get two or three out of the pack that are comfortable enough to be worked into my rotation of a half-dozen or so sets at any given time.

i use them for acoustic steel. they seem to stand up to (and stay on with) the more forceful picking needed to compensate for diminished sustain. dunlops work fine for me.

I use the large Dunlop ones, they are easy to find and fit my fingers well.

I like plastic picks for comfort. Compared them with a couple of different metal brands. Couldn’t tell the difference in tone.

I use Dunlop plastic picks for a 6 string acoustic as I find the tone warmer than metal - and yes that "plink" you get on the initial contact annoys me to! That said I find them too bulky for playing an 8 string electric and prefer metal picks for that purpose.

Shaping the picks is essential. Fill a cup with very hot water, drop them in one at a time to warm. Take each out and after cooling enough not to burn, shape them to your finger. I find they tend to lose their new form over time but it's no hassle to reshape.

Yes, you should be able to reshape most picks that aren't Delrin or polycarbonate with hot water and needle noses, tho if you expand the band it's tough to get it smaller again.

If the plastic picks don't work out, there's always this pair ...

How do you find the Fred Kelly Picks? I have been using the Alaska, but with age my fingernals are getting solf and it is hard to keep them long enough to engage with the Alaska.
