Aloha group,
time for another video:
Pretty Red Hibiscus on my Rickenbacher Frypan
(Longscale Postwar)
inspired by the great version of Dick McIntire.
The tuning I use is C#minor (Hi to low E C#G# E C# G#)
Hope you like it !😊
Aloha🌴Sebastian

Keep playing these great old musical treasures. They need to be heard! I've fallen down the rabbit hole of Hawaiian steel and your videos are my favorite. Just need one more lap steel so I can try C#minor tuning. |

Very nice! I've only heard this version from Andy Iona:

(Given Andy Iona's prolific songwriting I had assumed it was one of his many tunes, but turns out it is a Johnny Noble song.)
I love that your two main tunings are so easily interchangeable...just flat the A strings from open A... _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

Thank you so much for your kind words, guys, it keeps me going.
Nic, yes, with just one set of strings you can do A Higbass, the Sol K Bright version of C#minor (I sometimes tune up the 5th string to D for a Dominant 7th sound), and you can tune it very easy to E7th Hi to Low E B G# D G#
With these 3 tunings you can play a huge amount of early Hawaiian repertoire, Sol Hoopii, Dick McInitre, Sol K Bright, Andi Iona, King Bennie, and so on, pretty long list. _________________ https://hawaiian-steel-guitar.com |

Very nice, Sebastian! I like the video work too, cutting between overhead shots, close-ups on hands, etc.

Nice!
If anyone would be interested, I have this song tabbed out for the E9th pedal tuning.

Sebastian, you did an excellent job of playing Pretty Red Hibiscus. You had a very good tone on the old Ric.
As they say in Hawaii, "nahenahe" |

That's funny, i just picked up my tenth one and im gonna try the C#m on it
Done, it worked out well because they just put a brand new set of Chromes for regular guitar on it, they tuned right up there just fine, the high E is a bit light but glad i didn't have to throw them all out.
