I found this in a video by Justin Johnson. Looks like a great tuning for people who mostly play guitars in standard tuning. It’s just standard guitar tuning with the A dropped to G.

E G D G B E

Johnson uses it as a slide tuning on his armpit guitars.

It’s not a tuning that I plan to use, but I thought others might find it interesting and/or worth trying.

Cool! Very similar to the original E6th “C#minor” tuning, except with a low 6th interval on string six instead of a high root on string one (all tunings high-to-low):
E C# G# E B E (E6th “C#minor”)
G E B G D G (transposed to G)
E B G D G E (Justin Johnson tuning being discussed)

I believe Santo had an 8 string C#minor on his Fender Custom for ‘Sleep Walk’. His tuning reportedly had a low 6th, I remember reading that it was something like:
E C# G# E C# B G# E (original Sleep Walk tuning?)
G E B G E D B G (pitched in G, maybe worth a try!)

By the way, that original E6th “C#minor” makes a good armpit guitar alternate tuning, and not just for slide. Retuning the second string A, to B, on the usual open D, will get you D6th tuning.

I've been using EGDGBD for a couple of years now, I call it open G / Em7, but I guess the low E could make it G6. I've recently tried dropping the B to Bb, I guess that would be Gm tuning, and I probably should try it with the high E as well. But I love doing one six four fives and two five ones with the low E putting all the m7 chords right out there so easy to use. If you're as bad as I am you need a real easy tuning... Smile

Brian has come pretty close to that tuning. Has anyone actually used it on a lap steel?

@Brian, have you tried tuning the high string up to E?
