Hi - is there a standard, either dynamic or condenser
That is used in live performance situations (without
Use of a pickup ).

I’d imagine it’s like everything else - it’s what you prefer.
But maybe there’s one that is turned to more than others?

Many thanks. Eric

No standard but plenty of options.

For most of my live work (non concert settings) I'm currently using the Shure beta57. Rugged. Sounds quite decent and adequate side rejection.

For more formal concert settings I use my trusty Shure SM81.

As I said..many options. Others will chime in with their favs, I am certain.

There's no standard that I'm aware of. For dynamic mics it's hard to beat a Shure Beta57. As far as condenser mics, I've owned and/or played through a lot of different mics over the years - AKG C1000, C535, Shure SM32, 44, Audix and Rode pencil mics, AKG large diaphram mics and few others that I can't think of at the moment. Until recently, my condenser mic of choice was a Shure KSM32. That was until I had a chance to do the A/B with an Ear Trumpet Lab Edwina. I was more or less blown away by how much better the Edwina sounded, but just as importantly, by it's resistance to feedback. Huge difference. The Edwina is pricy - its $600, but at this point it's the best condenser mic for acoustic instruments I've used

I’ve used a used a SM57 on my Dobro for most of my playing. I’ve also used a GHS Sound Hole microphone when playing through an acoustic amplifier.
