Hey I found this on the forum, and I was wondering if someone would take the time to explain this rodding chart to me in layman's terms. Does this chart indicate which holes in the bellcranks are to be used, and also which holes in the changer as well? Thanks for everybody help here on the forum in helping a brother in troubleshooting on this instrument.

The chart shows the view of the guitar upside down, with the changer on your left. The top number is the changer hole (1-3 are raises, 4-6 are lowers) and the bottom number is the bell crank hole.

Thanks Bob on the bell crank there are 7 holes
00 1,2
00 3,4
00 5,6
0 7

or by the changer a couple bellcranks look like this
00 1,2
00 3,4
00 5,6
0 7

Is this a correct interpretation in numbering them?
Thanks again
Dan

1 is closest to the axle, if that helps.
I have to admit I don't understand your question as phrased

The bell crank holes there are 7 of them, I just don't know which is 1, 2, 3, etc.
The bell crank holes look like this

1 is closest to the axle: I'd assume that if they aren't staggered, but actually next to each other, that even numbers are closer to the changer, but there wouldn't be much difference between 2 and 3

Hey I checked some undercarriage photos on the forum of a new expo that was for sale some time ago and matched up the pedals rods placements on the bell crank with this chart. It turns out that the holes on the bell crank finger are staggered so the numbers are side to side like this:

1,2
3,4
5,6
7

Just figured I'd post this for future reference, in case someone find themselves asking the same questions.

On 10 string GFI ultra keyless.
Numbers associated with Bellcrank (denominator in the fraction - numbers 1-7) (x/( number 1 through 7)). The top number, the numerator, "x" is the changer hole number. I am not sure how the numbers are designated here. I have an Ultra 10 string with a changer having 3 raises and two lowers. I numbered them as I think they are. Please correct if wrong. (BTW, if you divide the numerator by the denominator you might find the key to the universe)
Thanks
K

Kristen those are some great pictures and numbering for a GFI Steel, To use with GFI's rodding chart.
I have 2 GFI S12 U. Not all bell cranks have 7 holes, Just the ones that need 7 for a long pull. But the hole numbers would be the same starting at axle with 1 and working out.
The holes are staggered down the bell crank, None are side by side on the bell cranks I have worked on.

To add to the "confusion".
I have a May 2000 Ultra D-10. It has 6 hole bell cranks. The 7 hole is a later change.

Bobby D,

The above pictures (with the bellcrank having 7 holes) came from the website and were numbered. So at least the general direction and numbering of the holes should be correct.

The other picture of the changer also came from the GFI website, but it only said Lowers(2) and Raises(3). I knew 3 were raises so looking at the copedent chart I saw that the rodding chart with numbers (in the numerator) 1, 2 and 3 coincided with raises on copedent chart. And the numbers 4 and 5 coincided with lowering the strings. I put the numbers 1 through 5 so the picture would coincide with the chart a little better.

By the way.I have a GFI 10 and a GFI 12.
I just now looked under the hood as I plan to check the rodding to see if it matched the chart.
Both of them have only 6 holes for the bell cranks. (and 3 raises and 2 lowers).

K

In ref to the 6 hole and 7 hole bell cranks. I asked Bob at GFI about that. He told me if the chart shows hole 7 in the bell crank but you only have the older 6 hole models, use hole 6 and it will work OK.

Yes, 3 raise, 2 lower. See the photo of the changer window above.

My Keyed GFI S 12U (Jeff Newman) has all 6 hole bell cranks, But 1. The 2nd string lower on the LKL lever has a 7 hole bell crank that lowers the 2nd string D# to C# and a 6 hole bell crank on the LKL cross rod that raises the 9th string B to D.

My Keyless GFI S 12U has only 1 7 hole bell crank also and is on the 2nd string lower to C# with 9th B to D raise on LKL.
I believe I ordered that 7 hole bell crank for the changeover. When I bought the GFI Keyless S 12 it was set up E9th Extended, Emmons Setup. I changed it to 12U (Jeff Newman), Day Setup.

Both guitars are set up now, With the exact same pulls, The keyless guitar is my spare.
