At long last, I have a few gigs coming up. Hallelujah! While I was locked in last year, I picked up a new reso with the Fishman Nashville pickup and got a JD Aura pedal to go with it. Looking forward to using these soon.
It looks like some folks put a DI/Preamp like the Fishman Tonedeq or similar things from Radial or Baggs after the JD Aura. Aside from the obvious addition of EQ, some effects, feedback control (which should be less on an issue with the JD/Nashville system, right?), is a device like this critical for gain, signal, etc.? Would it be duplicating the effect of going into a loudbox amp and sending a signal from there to the board?
I would be weighing the degree of benefit against the role of the reso for me, which is usually just a couple of songs a set, but grateful for any feedback (i mean, not THAT kind of feedback).
Thanks.

The JD itself needs to go into a DI so most use a Tonebone or something like it to fine tune the sound. I use the Red Eye right into the board. It’s good quality, very simple and has a boost switch for solos.

Thanks, Kevin. Although not quite the same animal, would a Baggs para-acoustic do the same thing? (I do like that boost feature, though!) |

Baggs would work but the Fire Eyes stuff is very well but simply engineered with superior components. _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Danelectro, Evans, Fender, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

Blends mic/mag PU if you have them and Aura, Simultaneous DI and line out, effects loop, notch filter, etc. Superior audio quality, and even battery powered when ac is not available.
It's not feedback so much as it's wolf tones from the guitar and other instrument vibrations, especially bass and drums. The cone collects all the bandstand vibrations and feeds it to the pickup just like it was designed to do by the Doperas. |
