My pickup is polyphonic. It is a super-sustain. My amp perfectly transfers all pedal and lever movements. I am debating on doing a wax pot for the pickup, or maybe buy a new one. Any suggestions or results from others who have done the wax pot before greatly appreciated!

| I am in a similar situation with a 81' Super Sustain II Vintage. I really like the sound of the single coil that is in there but it too picks up a lot of mechanical noise. I ordered a pound of paraffin wax and will be potting it this weekend. I don't really see a down side to trying, if it fails to fix it or alters the sound in a negative way I'll have to search for a replacement which I would be doing anyways. Fingers crossed. |

The stock SuperSustain II in my 1980 Vintage XL also went microphonic a few years ago. I was successful in fixing the problem by wax potting it. Actually, I did the lazy man's (less messy) version. Rather than dipping the entire pickup, I removed it, turned it upside down and dribbled a lot of wax into the windings. Maybe I just got lucky, but it fixed the problem and it's been good for a few years now. If you like the pickup, I don't see how you have anything to lose by trying the hot wax treatment.

| Hey Foster, I potted my single coil last night and just got done installing it. I have to say I am very pleased as the polyphonics/microphonics are gone and I sure don't hear any difference in the tone. Still has the normal single coil hum but it worked out really well and it was very easy to do. Only downside is I have to buy my wife a new crock pot now. |

I bought a small 8-10" crockpot for potting pickups. Great deal at about $20.
