I have a Zum SD-12 and it developed a bad hum on my last job. At first I thought it was a bad connection somewhere so I started unplugging everything until I unplugged everything except the guitar. I've tried it with both a Vegas and an NV400 as well as a Cube 80xl. The hum is not as pronounced as the Peavey's but it's still there.

In fairness to all electronics my equipment road on some pretty rough roads in the back of a trailer for 2 days to get to the show. I checked the leads at the jack and they are ok. However I notice the hum getting worse when I hold the jack near the guitar. When I ground my other hand the hum fades out a good bit.

I have a Telonics X12 in the guitar that is less than 2 years old. I really hope it didn't get damaged and has a problem with the ground.

Anyone have a place for me to start looking.

I'd suspect a ground wire to the changer (or someplace where metal meets strings) came unsoldered or broke off.

A bad input jack or a failing solder joint to the jack's ground will cause hum. Sometimes hard to see with the naked eye.

I would try to reflow the solder on the input jack wiring and check the wiring integrity at the neck selector switch, or tone control wiring before condemning the pickup.

Start with the 1/4 jack failing. Its a under $5 part .
