Two new pedals from Quilter Labs are being released today! I have one of each on order so if anyone is interested I will report back once I get to try them out.
The US version shares some similar design elements with the new Aviator Cub combo amp, which I am just crazy about. I was wishing they would come out with a head-only version of the Cub for recording, and lo and behold this may be the ticket!
The introduction of the UK version with Vox and Marshall emulations looks very cool as well!
And they are more than just preamps. They can also push 25-watts! So you can hook them up to a cab and wake the neighbors! 😂

Maybe it's based on the same circuit board as as the 101R, rotated 180 degrees? |

| The 101 picture is up side down. The knobs, when oriented properly, are not "reversed". |

Regardless of the knob layout this thing sounds really good. I used it in church this morning and it works as advertised. I was using the XLR output only and we are all using in ear monitors. Yesterday I tried it through a JBL D-130 and there’s plenty of power for practice or a low volume coffee shop gig. The reverb sounds good too.
All in all this is a Swiss Army Knife for steel guitar players. Well done Quilter! |

I assume the knob order is due to it being a "pedal" more than an "amp" - pedals almost always have input on the right, output on the left. The knobs then line up in the order in which the signal hits them. If you look at the Quilter Interblock, there is even an arrow showing you the signal path:

| Hey Mitchell, which amp voicing did you find yourself using, and did you feel any preamp gain/headroom issues with the pedal on that church gig? These little things seem like a handy unit to keep in a seat for stuff that doesn’t require bigger guns, if they don’t break up too quick... |

Ben, I used the 65 twin setting with the regular not the bright speaker emulation, plenty of headroom going direct. I had the gain set about 10 o’clock and the master pretty high. At home it was pretty loud without a hint of distortion. I took up to MSA today and hooked to up to a black widow in a bad Peavy amp and the guys were floored with the output.
I’m not saying it would be enough for a regular gig, but it’s enough for some applications.
Plug it into a powered cabinet and then you would be set. Jay Ganz little power amp would be just the ticket. |

Appreciate ya friend! Sounds like an interesting little unit... I've gotten used to bringing my old Princeton Reverb to smaller stuff for a few years, but even that sometimes feels like too much to haul for places with a built in PA or a tiny "stage"... or little living room rehearsals, etc.
Might have to pick one up at some point and give it a whirl... |
