May be a very elementary question, but I'd like to know. Almost all of my pedal steel experience has been with a single neck, single body. I'm considering an SD10 for my next guitar. With the knee levers located higher up my thighs, further from my knees, should I anticipate any difficulties? |

I had an initial adjustment period when I moved from a Mullen D-10 to the Shafer Sierra S-10. The S-10 seemed, at first much closer to my body. I intially missed the C6th neck on which I rested my right forearm and wrist. However, after a day or two of playing and practicing, it became an easy change. No big deal.
Your question is about the reverse of my experience. However, the end result may be the same... there is an adjustment period... but once one goes through it... no big deal. _________________ blah, blah, blah.

I have a D10, SD10 and S10. Yes It takes a minute to adjust but no big deal. I switch around on a regular basis. My biggest problem is when the placement of the knee levers is different. Takes a bit longer to adjust my seat and leg position but it's doable. |

It’s harder to adjust to the extra 10 lbs. |

I switch between a D10, SD10 and S10 all the time. I experience no adjustment period. Get whatever one you like with no worries. _________________ Bob |

my first guitar was an s10. moving to an sd10 was far more comfortable. now i play a d10, but i have an s10 of the same make and model for little things. i vastly prefer the d10 ergonomically speaking. |

This was my experience as well. Having a pad helps to keep both of my hands from moving unnecessarily, as it gives a sort of positional reference, in a way that the strings only do not. Also, I much prefer the position of the knee levers on the SD10.
That said, I agree with others who have said that if you have and use both, you'll have minimal difficulty switching between them. |

I learned to play on a S10, and the first time I sat down to a D10 at a store it felt very awkward, and I thought I could never get used to reaching across one neck to play another. But now I have S10, SD10, and D10, and switching between them is no big deal. Comfort wise I do prefer the SD10, which is actually a 1 and 1/2 wide body with pad. |
