Warning: I am a 70 year old newbie
Waiting: It has been 3 weeks since I ordered my custom steel from Jimmie Hudson. Jimmie is making me an "Amputee Special" steel. It is made for a player with an amputated left leg. My leg is amputated just above the knee. My residual limb should be able to operate the knee levers.
Anticipation: I am in a constant battle with myself not to call Jimmie Hudson to ask "how is it going". I know he is a busy man and my steel will be ready when it is.
Like I said anticipation is driving me insane.
Meanwhile: I have found a pedal steel player in my town that has been super friendly with me. The senior center in town has entertainment twice a week. A group that plays there regularly has my new friend playing steel. |

Awesome! It's so hard to wait.
If you haven't already, consider getting your learning materials all lined up, and starting to learn about and memorize the different positions (open, AB, AF, etc...) for major, minor, and 7th chords. It'll all be theoretical until your steel arrives, but time well spent, and will sort of scratch that itch. I think time spent thinking about how your copedent works and how you'd get from here to there and there to here can be just as valuable as seat time. _________________ Marlen S12 and a ZT Club |

If your steel is to have a fairly standard E9th tuning. I would suggest you get a Mel Bay's Chord Chart for E9th steel guitar. It is the road map to finding all the Major, 7th, Augmented and Diminished chords on a steel guitar. Shows no pedal, Pedal and knee lever used to make the chords.
They are available from bOb here on the forum on page 5 in the Instruction section at top of page.
It will show you a lot of things very quickly about the neck of a E9th steel guitar.
Goob Luck on the journey and Happy Steelin. |

Here is the body after stain and clear coat. Ready to start buffing Monday. Then add stripes and build it up. Should be done soon.

It’s not even done and that’s already one of the best looking steels I’ve seen. Steven, I think you made a good choice going with Hudson. Yes the wait time can be a lot but it’s gonna be worth it. Some people have waited years for their new steel (I couldn’t do that) |

Welcome to the club.
What configuration will it be? AB pedals plus Es raise and lower on the levers? How many strings?
you're in for a lot of fun for sure and there will be plenty of people here to help you out with any questions you have. |

That is going to be one gorgeous guitar!
Per Tom Petty: "The waiting is the hardest part". |

Thanks Jeff.
The steel will be a "standard" E9 10 string 3 pedals 4 knee levers.
Jimmie Hudson is swapping the left and right pedals and knee levers for me.
Pedals on right, RK* on left, LK* on right.
What is the steel scene like in London. My daughter is an expatriate living in London for 13 years. I'm due for a visit there. |

You can't see all the guitars in the photos. 22 guitars in the assembly room. Those 22 and 20 more and I will be caught up.
Probably not going to get caught up. More orders will come in. |
