Topic: Lap steel bottom |

I have a lap steel with black mica on top but the bottom is bare wood. I would like to cover it with something , perhaps something non slip. Any ideas are welcome.

| I have used self adhesive anti-slip tape made for for stairs and porches. Works especially well on my slippery chrome Silver Hawaiian. |

I used sticky backed green baize on my orphan Stringmaster restoration.
It's not specifically non-slip but it doesn't slip. I thought it was in keeping with what I had seen on other old steels.

I'm not sure what Baize is but felt works well. I bought a 60s East German lap years ago and it had a thick rubber mat on the bottom- probably from a car floor mat. Whatever its background the rubber stank my music room out so I ripped it off and replaced it with felt. Stayed put on my lap!

Yes, baize is basically felt, I think.
It's what snooker and pool tables are covered with. |
