I have used this tuning app for a few years and have been happy with it . I use an irig lead that plugs into my iphone but lately it doesn't seem to disconnect the phone mic so any other noises affect the tuner . Anyone else using this app ? I used to be able to tune up on a bandstand with this but no longer can . |

Is the noise filter enabled in the app settings? If not, that may help. |

Hi Brendan,
Reboot your phone.
Audio path issues can build up and block audio access to the app. Most people do not power cycle their devices (myself included) very often, if at all. Rebooting the phone resets the audio path and can clear up the problem as well as make the phone work more efficiently since all the background apps will be force closed.
If the built-in mic is not switched, that means the switching is not happening in the device and the direct input is not being made available to the app. It can be a device issue. Doesn't mean the iPhone is bad though. I've coached people through cleaning out fuzz balls from the connector port using a toothpick before! It can collect funk from being in your pocket and prevent connection.
In this case, the signal path into the iPhone starts with the iRig and then the Apple audio-to-Lightning connector. The cable linkage should be verified working with another tuning app. If another app can "hear" the input using the same cabling, then the iRig and the Apple connector can be verified working and any potential blockage at the port level can be ruled out.
In iStroboSoft, there is not a switch to tell the app where to look for audio. It just switches based on the iOS path control.
The test procedure for error reports like this would go like this:
1. Reboot the device.
2. Check the port for any visual blockages. (If so, a toothpick, WHILE THE DEVICE IS POWERED OFF, can lightly be used to draw out any fuzz build-up in the port. Nothing metal that is conductive and nothing too hard that can scrape the internal contacts.)
3. Verify the cabling is working....lightning-to-audio adaptor, our adaptor cable, iRig, etc. (Also verify the Apple cable is authentic and not a potential knock-off as those have proven faulty with bi-directional audio.
4. Connect the cable before the app is launched. This may force iOS to start iStroboSoft looking for audio at the port and not the mic.
If you disconnect/reconnect the cable with iStroboSoft open and the icon doesn't change, it usually means that 1-3 above are at fault.

All these methods seem to work sometimes but am still having the original issue . I suspect the problem may lie with non Apple lightening cable . Will try to get to an Apple store today and will report back .
To John Sluszny The Irig I refered to is exactly that . I have 2 others , a Peterson and one called Flanger but they all act the same . Hopefully an original Apple connection will solve my problem . |

Update : I got a genuine Apple lightening to headphone lead and it seems to be working again . |
