Topic: Proper height for pad on SD-10 |

Hi gang. I feel like my pad is too low on my SD-10 zb custom. For those of you that play one, does your right wrist rest on the pad while picking?

Hi Dave!
I don't rest my wrist or forearm on the pad while picking. The pad is slightly lower than the fret board, so my arm would be angled upward. This is a factory SD ZB, not chopped.

Since we are all built different, Not made in the same mold. We sometimes have to modify things to fit our body. Height of guitar, height of seat and height of pad on steel.
Some players like to have the wrist of their picking hand supported, Some want their picking hand free to move. I would suggest lay a folded towel or wash cloth under your picking wrist and bar wrist and see what fits you personally.
If the whole pad is to low, And has bolts holding it in place, Loosen the bolts raise it up and put spacers under it till you get a comfortable height.

Since a pad is replacing what, on a different guitar, would be the C6 neck, I think the pad should be the same height as would be the C6 strings.
The C6 neck is lower than the E9 by however much the top deck 'steps down.' You can measure that on your guitar and then set the pad accordingly. If the step down is, say, 1/4" then you would set the top of your pad to be 1/4" lower than the E9 strings. |

Pad works well on Loyd green model because the back deck drops a full 3/4 inches.
Most new brands drops only a 1/4 inch or less.
BMI don’t drop any they use a thinner c6th neck.

| Jeff Newman used to get new guitars sent to him from most of the builders and when he would get an SD he would send it right back because he said "It promotes laziness"~ your mileage my vary~~ |

That's funny, Jim. I wonder if he thought having a C6 neck on the guitar promoted laziness? A lot of E9 players rest their arms there...
I could see that attitude coming from a 12U player since he didn't deal with a second neck (or maybe a pad in place of that neck). |
