Does anyone use a vertical lever on their right knee? If so, tell me what you think about it. |

I’ve been thinking of getting a new single neck E9, with a 3pedals& 6knees...With E raises& lowers on left, B-Bb lower (left knee up) & standard ABC pedals.
Right knee left-raise 1&7 a half step to “Gâ€, right knee right tuneable half step to “D†then on to “C#â€, lower 9th string to “C#â€. Also Right knee -string 1up a whole step to “G#, second string raise a half step to “E†& lower 6 a whole step to F#, add a split tuning to catch the “G†in between.
I am concerned if it would hamper my volume pedal technique if at all.
I was thinking of going this way because my left ankle & arch were injured about 3 yrs ago, and have limited flexibility still.
I’m curious about this copedant versus a 4th pedal or “0†pedal, also concerns if this is too much for the 2nd string pull.

Dana, think twice about a RKV. I've never had one, but tried staggered levers on both sides of my RK levers, and both really fouled up my volume pedal technique. I think a vertical would be even worse, coming back down to the VP with your foot in the exact same spot would be quite the trick.
The best spot ergonomically for a 6th lever is a staggered LKL. Mine that's further forward is secondary changes, the rear one is a main change, and that works well because your left leg is at quite an angle which helps get to both levers. I may try swapping that around, see if it's better to have a key change on LKL-Fwd. _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION

Thanks for replying John, yeah that’s exactly what I was concerned about. I’m kinda old school in a way, I really like the 1&7 1/2 step raise, but was tryin to figure out how to add the first string raise whole step,2nd string 1/2 step raise. Could this be added to the left knee left (F lever) without interfering with anything mechanically or musically? I considered adding a tuneable 1/2 step, whole step raise but was told they work better on lowers versus raises.
I was considering a Mullen or a Justice guitar at this time.
I don’t mean to hijack this post ,but curious _________________ Dana Blodgett

I think you would have trouble operating a foot volume control along with a vertical knee lever.

I have the lkl that is closer to the front of the guitar as a main change (E to D#) and the one closest to the rear has whatever I decide to put on it that day (nothing permanent on there right now). Easier for me to move my knee back than forward. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I'm kind of old school too. I raise 1 & 7 to G on my vertical lever. And I raise 1 & 2 and lower 6 on rkr. I find that I can get the G on string 1 by barely pressing rkr or pulling string 1 behind the bar. But I would miss raising 7 to G. I may take my 2nd lkl and raise 7 to G# with a half stop at G. But it is really awkward using that lever with pedals down. I'm a Day player, so A & B are my 2nd & 3rd pedals. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I don't think Ive ever seen a RKV, and I assume the volume pedal is the reason. even Buddy Cage who had 14 (!!!) knee levers, stopped short of adding a RKV.
I play mostly without a volume pedal on C6 since I'm using both feet much of the time so a RKV could work for me, at least on the back neck. _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

I have a question. I use my left foot on all 8 pedals.
The only exception is on the C6 neck and that is only when two pedals are in a sequence where that is the only way to do it. Is that the wrong way to do it?
I also use my left leg with the LVL. Do most folks use their right lag for that? _________________ Curbside Jimmy's New Act
