| Thanks for posting this. I used to see AATW at a little club quite often in the mid 1970's right after I had bought my first steel guitar. I had some nice conversations with Lucky back then and it was always very inspirational to talk with him. This article is also very inspirational. One of my favorite non pedal steel albums is "Lucky Oceans Steels The Wheel" |

Congrats to Lucky. He is one of the first pedal steel players whose name I actually knew. The 1974 AATW LP listed Lucky among the credits. It was one of 3 albums I bought that day. Flying Burrito Brothers double LP and Pure Praire League Two Lane Highway.
So, Lucky Oceans, JD Call and Sneaky Pete Kleinow.
Lucky's steel solo on Dead Man just put me over the top in wanting to learn to play. It's still one of my favorites to listen to, to this day.
Thanks for the inspiration Lucky. Good to see this well deserved recognition. |

Lucky Oceans and Bobby Black were two early C6th inspirations for me. I love his 2 tone Williams D10!

| Not particularly a comment about Lucky Oceans, but I have been heard from musicians who played for them that the band just strictly plays by the written music, note for note and there is no deviation or improvisation. I wonder if this has always been true and was true when Lucky played with them? |
