I am new to "dobros", play Remington U-12. I want to tune the dobro to E or A-A6th as I know these Fret positions. Using the "Little" string as the first string what gauges would you recommend ?

If you're tuning it to E, then just use a medium guage Phosphor Bronze set,.056, .045, .035, .26,.17, .13---the fourth and fifth will take being tuned up one whole step. In fact, those notes ought to really bark. What kind of Reso are you playing?

Stephen, I bought a Regal RD 45 Squareneck.I figgured it would do me to get started. I will only be using it when we go camping and everyone has acoustic guitars. I play 3-4 weekends a month with band, Remington U-12, ProFex ll, MV500, twin speaker cabs with 1501-4 BW's. Learning dobro will be a little different.... Many thanks for jumping in with advice on string guage...
