Thanks guys. The key to this is that a lot of the licks are harmonized with an open E string. Actually the whole tune is based on a modal E chord...

Heard this for the first time on KUSF driving across the Golden Gate Bridge from SF to Marin back in '94. Blew my mind. Picked up "All Over the Road" soon after. Great stuff, thanks!
