Here’s a cute little amp, perfect for bedroom playing, noodling around the house, or even gigging (mic’d up, of course). This is a total recreation of a 5 watt Fender Champion 600 RI. The only thing saved from the original amp was the chassis. Everything else, including the cabinet, has been replaced.
The pine cabinet is custom made to fit the original chassis + a 10†Eminence Alessandro GA10-SC64 8-ohm speaker, in place of the original 6†4-ohm Fender speaker. Real tweed covers the cabinet and back panel, and has been given the relic treatment to look like a 70 y/o amp. Brown and gold grillcloth enhances the front of the amp, along with a simple black & chrome Fender badge.
Inside, you’ll find that the entire PCB wiring has been replaced with handwired components, including F&T and Sozo caps. The volume pot and knob, input jacks, extension speaker jack, tube sockets, switches, fuse holder, pilot light and resistors are all new as well, not to mention four new large rubber feet and a new power cord with 3-prong plug. The brown leather handle is a replacement as well.
Powering this bad little boy is a set of Classic Tone power and output transformers, tied together with the following compliment of tubes:
(1) Visseaux 6V6 power tube (Note: these French Visseaux 6V6 tubes from the 1950s are hard to come by, but sound glorious in small amps such as this);
(1) current production Tung-Sol 12AX7 preamp tube;
(1) NOS RCA 5Y3 rectifier tube, which replaces the original diode rectifier.
A negative feedback circuit (NFB) has been added to the circuitry of this amp for more or less gain, depending on variables such as guitar and amp volume, which amp input jack is used, and which NFB switch position is used (up for less gain, down for more gain). Humbuckers and single coil pickups will react differently to this circuitry as well. The NFB circuit can be changed via the mini toggle switch, situated between the volume knob and the Low input.
To help protect this sweet little amp, a brown Studio Slips padded cover with bottom strap is included.
Dimensions of the amp are as follows:
Height: 15 3/8â€
Width: 13 1/2â€
Depth: 9 1/2â€
The amp is quite light and portable, weighing only 20.4 lbs.
A couple of demo videos are included below the pics so that you can get an idea of what this small amp can do. In the videos, the amp volume is maxed at 12. Telecaster volume and tone are at approximately 10 and 5 respectively. I go through the three Tele switch positions on each video. The NFB switch is up (less gain) for the first part of each video, and down (more gain) for the second part. No effects were used. Just a Telecaster with Cavalier single coil pickups, a cord and the amp.
