A friend of mine and I made a trip to Detroit to visit Joel J., I want to thank him for his time as I and my friend are pretty much clueless about the workings of the Steel, Joel was very knowledgeable and willing to share what little we could manage to absorb.
Thanks to the Steel Guitar Forum for making this possible, I am very impressed at the willingness of the members to help as good friends do.
Take care, Rick. |

Joel Jackson is damn good people, Asheville lost a gem when he moved north.
and to think he was just a hot tele picker when I met him!

Rick, it was great meeting you guys. You never know what you're getting in to when you offer to help some one set up an old steel you haven't seen, but that MSA was easy peasy, and you were nice enough to let me off the hook on the one that was a little more, ummmm, problematic... Members of the steel community, including people who i haven't had the pleasure of meeting IRL, have been nothing but kind and generously helpful to me, and I'm more than happy to try to pay it forward whenever i get the chance. Looking forward to seeing you guys again in the future.
Scott, you were really the guy that got me into this whole thing, so thanks a lot! I think it was probably that little chromatic thing you'd do on 2,3,4 . Miss ya and your great playing. |

haha you mean my "derka derka" lick? that's just something I blatantly stole from Buddy Emmons, minus the finesse or context. I'll stick it just about anywhere!
glad to hear I helped get you started on this dadblasted contraption. you're the man who forced me to learn Moonshine
hope you're well. love to hear what you've been up to _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |
