Im buying a Peavey LTD 400 with a 15" JBL E130-4 in the amp.
It has the silver knobs in front. It also has the 6 caps on the back panel plus the Off/Power On Right On Left toggle switch.
Is the JBL E130-4 a good sounding steel speaker?
What would the 6 caps on the back panel be for? The caps have 2 screws holding each cap and they are lined up in a single row across the back panel.
Thanks!

Those caps are transistors. The E130 should be a great speaker. The LTD is a fantastic amp for pedal steel. |

Don, the one's I played through were fantastic. Sadly they were not mine. At this point they are getting old and I don't know if parts are still available. If I was buying one, it would have to be very reasonable. |

The black caps cover the output power transistors
Without them you could get a shock from the transistor cases |

you will love the JBL. Don't waste time and money changing it. It's awesome in a LTD. |

I’ve been playing thru my Black Widow equipped LTD for a year and it’s a great sounding amp. Doesn’t take up much space and leaves room for a Fender guitar amp. Plenty of clean volume in a small package. |

Love my old LTD. Purchased new in '77 with a factory JBL and like so many of 'em, it blew. Replaced it with a 1501-4 and it never sounded better. Be careful with that JBL at high volume. |

Thank you Ken for the information on the caps. Im glad you told me about them. Since its my first LTD I will be careful.
I never knew I had so many LTD amp players that love this amp. Its my first LTD and hope I will enjoy the amp playing my 1995 Mullen Pre Royal.
I have been playing through my Mackie ProFX6 V3 mixer using my nearfield speaker monitors. I bet when I start playing through this LTD I will not want to go back to my mixer and play. LOL!
Thank you all for the nice comments and support! |

The 'E' series JBL speaker should handle the power of the 'LTD' fine (believe that they were standard issue in the original Webb amps). The older Peavey branded JBL 'D' series speakers that the company used in some of their early steel amplifiers however did not possess the handling capability to deal with the more powerful amps which led to the company developing the Black Widow '1501' as a replacement. |

Very interesting information David. Glad you posted this. I learn something new everyday about this LTD amp.
It should be here Friday by UPS. Ill make a video of it and post it on here so everyone can see and hear how it sounds.
It might be next week when I get the video made...
Thank you! |
