Hi everyone. New to the forum and completely new to Pedal Steel here. I've played standard guitar and Piano and been a producer/engineer for over 25 years.
My question is this. I have a potential seller who is offering to sell me his Carter Pro Steel for 1800 (CAD). . Aside from checking the serial number,. How can a novice like me tell a Starter from a Pro apart to be sure. Are there any distinct physical differences that I can easily see visually?
Attaching a pic but it's the only one I have so far,. He is going to send more soon

Yes, and also black wooden necks, and black end plates. The legs, changer, and keyhead are dull aluminum-colored rather than shiny chrome. The only thing that shines on the guitar are the actual tuning machines. The legs don't have the traditional adjustment feature, so you won't see big knurled nuts sitting on top of that black wooden pedal bar. Lots of other differences -- it's an utterly different animal from top to bottom -- but those are the most visible.
Also, the Starter was only offered in black (with a subtle MOP effect).

there are photos and info all over the net and this forum as well, of which there are countless Carter owners and former Carter owners.
PIC 1 is the bridge assembly of a Starter, pic 2 is a Pro Carter. Very Obvious differences . There is only ONE model of the Starter.
The photo at the top is a PRO guitar, as already mentioned.
Good luck, ask away !
You can see that the PRO guitar has separate "rounded" bridges for each string riding on an axle.
