| Here's a real controversy for ya. I play with a thumbpick and two fingerpicks but I also play without them. I find I can get four note grips easier (especially for jazz chords)without the picks and also a different tone. Curiously enough I find that my blocking chops sound 100% better without the picks and that I can still play real fast also. I know that the sound is not quite the same but different strokes fer different folks. Anyone else use their fingers or am I just missing a few nuts and bolts upstairs? |

| I don't use any picks. I have tried at times, but I don't have a lot of time to practice. For me going without has been a much faster way to learn to play. Some times I feel like I'm doing myself a disservice and I know that there are sounds that I can't quite get. That said, I get by just fine. |

| I use the Alaska pics. They are plastic and fit over the top of the finger leaving the flesh of the finger to block with. Also they don't have the "dink!" sound that metal picks do when striking the string. No picks would chew my nails up too much. |

Mike, Bobbe Seymour doesn't use finger picks either. Just a thumb pick. I always loved the tone Chet Atkins got with his fingers doing most of his melody lines. I suppose your fingers callouse enough to become finger picks.
