6 string pedal

Iâ€™m looking into purchasing a 6 string pedal steel guitar. Iâ€™m looking at 6 strings for portability and simplicity but admit Iâ€™m a novice.
Iâ€™m pretty sure which brand I want to purchase and have found a lot of useful info here.
I have not ruled out purchasing a new instrument but wanted to hear from this knowledgeable community before pulling the trigger in regards to:
1 makers
2 expense new vs used
3 long range satisfaction with fewer strings pedals and levers.
