Topic: Question on Rod Extenders |

Hey Everyone,
I'm brand new to the steel, so forgive me if this is a silly question:
I just got my first pack-a-seat in today, but it puts me a little too close to the bottom of the steel than I'd like. I'm about 6' tall, so I wouldn't think I need any sort of special setup; if anything I just have some tree trunks for legs.
My left thigh clears by maybe 1/2" or less and my right thigh rubs the bottom of the steel, making the levers a bit tricky to use.
Would some 1-2" rod extenders be the fix so I can raise the legs? Or is there a simple solution that I'm missing?
The fitting on the rods are extended out as far as I can get them before they completely unthread.

(As a side note, Dan at Steeler's Choice did an incredible job on the seat and had it delivered before I could even finish my dinner. Give him a holler!) |

Sure, here's 1 and 2" extenders. On the front legs, you might want a collar to keep the pedal bar down in place, i.e. a spacer below the knurled clutch lock sleeve.

Check your new seat height against your previous seat you used. Is the height of the new seat more comfortable?
If the seat has tubing legs, And the seat is high, It would be easier to shorten the legs than raise steel.
A friend and I got new seats some years ago. We both were about 5'9" tall. I cut 1" off legs. Tried it a few days. Cut another 1 inch off, Very comfortable now. John ended up cutting 2 inches of his too. My seat is 19 inches tall now.
Ran into the seat builder at a steel show, and asked him about the height. He said, "I make my seats so tall people are comfortable, You short people can cut the legs off to fit".

| Good advice Bobby. I like my seats at 20 inches. Some are 21 and it's snug to the apron. My steels are typically 26 at apron bottom. Depending on the foam, one seat is more suitable than the other. Finding the proper height and sticking with it makes playing more enjoyable. |

Do yourself a favor and get longer rods. I tried rod extensions before and just didn’t like it. It looks a little hodgepodge and there’s just more to mess around with. I think it’s neater, cleaner, and easier to adjust then trying to connect two pieces of rod. Keep your old rods for when you sell and retain your longer rods; they are probably the only ones you’ll ever have to buy. Mullen has then for less than $20 per rod—a worthwhile investment.
