| My 112 makes feedback noise when turned on. The master volume controls it-- after flipping the off-on switch half a dozen times it's OK for awhile, and sounds completely normal. It's a 2010-ish(IIRC) US made model bought new, with self-installed-no-solder Ken Fox chips. Haven't run it in about a year plus a little and I've had it stored with the cover on in an insulated but unheated shed all that time. Any thoughts? |

Thanks for the Q's! The reverb pan is still in the factory sleeve. The reverb works as normal( when the amp isn't howling), and the reverb control doesn't affect the feedback noise.The pre-amp volume doesn't either. Just the MV.
LATER: It's been on for about an hour. Works fine now,quiet as churchmice, so whatever it is,it's intermittent.  |

Oh... that's too bad. I hate 'intermittent.' Just makes it so much harder to figure out. It will work flawlessly until you hit the first note at your next gig.
I got nothing. Maybe one of our amp techie-types will chime in. |

Next time it does it try sweeping the mid pot first to see if that is where it is coming from. If not sweep tone pots. The mid pot on these and all Peavey amps using IC circuits since the Session 500 are prone to cause noise issues. A good cleaning will usually fix it
Also seen the amp input jacks cause noise issues when nothing is plugged into the amp. If the contact does not properly ground the input jack when it is not in use it can cause noise
Also cleaning and exercising the input loop jacks is a good idea as well. They have a contacts that can get dirty thus causing the normally closed loop to have issues |

I had a brand new nv112 that had that feedback sound. I changed the reverb to I higher quality and the noise was gone. I have the same reverb as Tommy White and Randy Beavers recommended.
That rev are sounding so much better!
I have done that to another 112 as weel. Makes the amp sound MUCH better.

| Didn't make that howling noise for a couple days, but it did it again yesterday. This time I worked the mid-shift pot( Thanks, Ken!) and got a credible simulation of a theremin, plus a little static, and it settled right down. I have a few days before an audition, so if it behaves I think I'll use it. |

Very helpful info, Ken.
Last year my trusty NV112 began producing the howling feedback. I finally figured out that it was the mid-shift pot.
But when I pulled the amplifier out of the cabinet and squirted Deoxit D5 in all of the pots, I found the mid-shift pot was the only one that did not have a little hole to squirt the cleaner into.
So I removed the knob from the front of the mid-shift pot and dribbled the cleaner into the pot that way.
The amp has been behaving ever since.
Do all NV112 mid-shift pots come without a hole, or is it just certain years?
If all NV112 mid-shift pots come without a hole, what is the best workaround or fix?
